Behind the boxes

Meet the people
behind Hubnot.

Created by Lynn Cole.
Distributed and managed by Kinetic Actor.

Hubnot is an open-source project built around a simple conviction: your software project should belong to you, wherever you choose to work.

The creator

Lynn Cole.

Lynn Cole is a software architect, computer scientist, and self-described mad scientist with 30 years of experience building software, infrastructure, and occasionally things that probably shouldn’t exist.

Specializing in agentic engineering, AI systems, programming languages, and developer tooling, Lynn works at the intersection of unconventional ideas and practical engineering. Her projects range from distributed collaboration systems and autonomous software factories to experimental compilers, machine learning runtimes, and independent search engines.

She’s the creator of projects including Hubnot, Thickticket, Frumpy, and Fell Into, and an advocate for open systems, local-first software, and putting powerful technology back into the hands of the people who use it.

The guiding philosophy

Software should empower people, challenge assumptions, and have a little bit of fun.

How we got here

An experiment.
Then a project of its own.

Hubnot grew out of building tools for people and AI agents to work together—and wanting the collaboration to belong to the project.

  1. EARLY 2026

    The first experiments

Hubnot’s origins stretch back through experiments with Qwench, Sugarfang, and Thickticket. It began as an internal ticketing and collaboration system.

  2. AROUND SEPTEMBER 2026

    A project of its own

The collaboration technology was extracted into an independent project. Thickticket, the larger agentic software development platform it emerged from, continues to use Hubnot as its collaboration layer.

  3. OCTOBER 2026

    Bringing the pieces together

Development expanded GitHub Issues import/export, project management, discussions, synchronization, and cross-platform compatibility. By October 27, version 0.0.3-dev was available, with Linux and macOS testing underway.

How it’s built

Experiment. Learn. Refine.

Hubnot grew through iterative experimentation rather than a traditional, heavily specified development process. Its architecture reflects lessons from building agentic development systems: portability, distributed collaboration, and keeping people in control of their data.

Lynn works with AI coding agents on implementation, testing, documentation, and refinement. Hubnot is one example of an experienced developer working with agents to build substantial infrastructure.

The principle that stayed

Git should contain the entire collaborative project, not just its source code.
